Math Update

Today we took our Unit 8 test.  Watch for it to come home Wednesday.  Please sign the test and return it to school on Thursday.  Our next unit will be Fractions.  This unit will help students gain an understanding of the parts of fractions, relationships among fractions and operations with fractions.

As always, students should be completing the Homework and Remembering sheet each day so that they get the necessary practice on the concepts learned in class.  Hopefully you are seeing these at home and are able to spend some time “talking math” with your child.  They really are learning to do some amazing things!

Books

I would like to thank Maria for donating two new books to our classroom library, Jewel Thieves by Hope Mclean and Star in the Forest by Laura Resau.  I am always looking for gently used books to add to my library.  If you come across any books you are ready to part with as you do your spring cleaning or get ready for a garage sale,  I would gladly take them off your hands for you.  I am looking for all genres and levels.  Thank you!



YUM POWER

The students at Pleasantview attended the Disney Radio - Yum Power Presentation today.  The students learned that healthy eating and physical activity are an important part of their everyday lives. The students powered-up with fun activities and dancing! 

Math Update

In math class, we have been learning about patterns. The kinds of patterns we are studying include numerical patterns (400, 200, 100, 50...) and geometric patterns.

We will also study functions and graphs. A function is a relationship shared by two sets of numbers. This week, students will practice naming the rule of the table and stating it in an equation:

X  0  2  4  6  8
Y  2  4  6  8 10

Rule: x2 (multiply by 2)
Equation: X x 2 = Y

Graphs are another way of seeing the relationships shared by two sets of numbers. Students will learn to graph functions from a table.

Please remember to check in with your child to see if he/she is in need of any help with the Homework and Remembering assignments. These sheets should be coming home almost every night and need to be completed by the next day.  Students are given quite a bit of time throughout the day to work on their math, so there should not be much left to do for homework.

  

School-Wide Read

Yesterday concluded "I Love To Read" month. Students lined the hallways at Pleasantview and enjoyed a book during our afternoon school-wide read.

Pizza Ranch Night

Mark your calendars!  Pleasantview Pizza Ranch Night  will be from 5-8 pm on Monday, February 25.  Wear your PV gear and mention that you are from Pleasantview when ordering/paying!
