One District One Book

On Friday, February 1st, we will kick off our One District, One Book.
Every K-8 family will receive a copy of the same book - E.B. White's Charlotte's Web - and we ask that you, as a family, read it at home over the month of February.  You will be asked to read a chapter a night (about 15 minutes).  We are hoping you can make the time as a family to participate in this special activity.

In addition to reading the book, there will also be some free Family Night events held throughout the month that families are encouraged to attend.

Inventor's Congress Slideshow

Thank you to Mr. Krupa for planning such a wonderful Invention Unit and making the Inventor's Congress a huge success. The students were very proud of their projects and it was great to see them sharing their inventions with students, teachers, parents and judges. I would also like to thank Kirsten Stiegel for all of her hard work. She was able to gather over 100 prizes from local businesses to be given out to students throughout the day.

Math

We have spent the last few weeks learning the common multiplication shortcut method.  Along with this, your child has been introduced to a few other methods of multiplying.  We have also practiced patterns in multiplication and how to multiply larger numbers with zeros.

If your child is still not confident with single-digit multiplication and division, I urge you to set aside time each night for multiplication and division practice.  We will be reviewing Unit 5 on Thursday and testing on Friday.   On Monday, our class will be starting Unit 6 Division.  It is very important that your child be both fast and accurate with their basic facts in order to be successful.

Thank you for your support in your child's education!

Many new discoveries, innovations, and inventions were made during our invention unit this year. I was very impressed with their creative and original ideas.  All inventions will be on display on Friday, January 25, from 10:15-12:00 and 1:15-2:00.
