Math

Our SCSU students, Ms. Brown and Ms. Donnay, have been doing a great job teaching geometry concepts during math class.

Students practiced making 90, 180, 270 and 360 degree clockwise and counter-clockwise turns.

Students looked at 2-dimensional shapes and identified whether or not they had rotational symmetry.
Students classified triangles by their sides and angles.

Students took notes in their math journals.

Veteran's Day Program

Students participated in a special Veteran's Day Assembly on Friday.  The American Legion Honor Guard began the program by posting the colors.  Students sang a variety of patriotic songs and 4th graders shared poems they had written.

Students spent last week working on their Veteran's Day poems in language arts class.  The following students were voted by their classmates to share their poem at the Veteran's Day program.

On Veteran's Day

On Veteran's Day, we take the time to
Honor the people we know.
To celebrate the soldiers who fought for our freedom.

On Veteran's Day, we say
The Pledge of Allegiance and sing
The Star Spangled Banner
Because we are proud of what we can do for America.

On Veteran's Day, we say our prayers
For the soldiers who have died
And for the soldiers who are fighting.
Thank you for protecting our country.

Veteran's Day Respect

All soldiers are brave and strong
They fight for our country, they are in it for all.
They stand under the flag red, white and blue.
They fight for everyone including you.
They work for the Army, Navy and others too.
But when it comes to serving, they are the best for you.
They work together to keep our country safe.
They travel the world, but they start at one place.
A place where it is safe, calm and pleasant,
A place where people send you presents.
They leave that place to defend our rights
With courage and bravery, it is sad they have to fight.
So thank you for helping and serving for us.
And for the people we have lost thinking of them is a must.

Math Update - Unit 4 Angles and Polygons

Yesterday, we started Unit 4 Angles and Polygons.  Throughout this unit, students will measure angles using a protractor, sort and classify angles and triangles, identify two-dimensional figures with line and/or rotational symmetry and explore translations.  We will continue to practice finding the area and perimeter of rectangles, parallelograms and triangles.

A staff member from Anna Marie's House in St. Cloud came to speak to our class about friendship skills today.  She brought along her Friendship Tool Box and shared many tools with the students and what each one symbolizes in our relationships with others.

Pajama Day

Students had the opportunity to watch The Ant Bully. This movie contains some great messages, most importantly that those who appear to have nothing in common can turn out to be very much alike and that the impossible can be accomplished if all work together toward a common goal. Students had a great time lounging on mats in their pajamas during the movie. "LET'S PUT THE BULLIES TO BED!"
