COME WALK WITH US

On Friday May 3, Pleasantview students will be walking in honor of all those we have known and loved who have battled cancer.  The Walk for Life is the school's version of the Relay for Life that goes on in this area in June.  Sauk Rapids-Rice Schools have proudly been involving the students in the education of this important cause for about 12 years.  We have also had a school team walking in the Relay for Life for many more years than that.  We want all the students to understand the importance of having a worthy cause to fight for and understand that no matter how young they are, EVERYONE can make a difference. We would love for you and your family to come out and walk with your child on May 3rd. Please do not bring any pets.   The schedule of when each class is walking is listed below. KCLD will be out that day playing music for us.  Please send back your child's fundraising bottle by May 3rd!!

MCA PEP TALK

Mrs. Froiland visited our classroom last week for a MCA pep talk.  She compared our MCA Tests to "Game Day".  The day that we have been working toward all year.  The students watched a short video entitled 212 Degrees: The Extra Degree.  The message that the video shared is that at 211 degrees, water is hot. At 212 degrees it is boiling. Boiling water produces steam which can power a locomotive. That is all produced in that 1 degree.  How many of us go through life at 211 degrees rather than doing our best and breaking through to 212?  The students shared their ideas of how they could reach 212 degrees on test day.
These were their ideas:

Focus
Take Your Time
Don't Give Up
Believe In Yourself
Push To Your Limit
Think Good Thoughts
Be Positive
Eliminate Answers
Don't Guess
Know What The Question Is Asking
Highlight Important Ideas
Reread The Text
Make Yourself Comfortable
Adjust The Screen

WE CAN DO IT!!!!!!

CARNIVAL BASKET

Dear Families,

The annual Pleasantview Carnival is right around the corner!  Once again each grade level will be putting together a basket for the raffle.  Fourth grade has chosen a “Spa” theme.  We are asking each student to bring in a $1-2 donation.  The money donated will be used to purchase items for our themed basket.  Please send in your donation by April 25, so we have ample time to purchase items and get the basket ready for the carnival on Friday, May 3.  All money raised will go to the PTAC.  This money will be used throughout the year for various things like field trip transportation and the purchase of iPads.

Thank you for your support and contribution to this project!

Pleasantview will be participating in the Rox Reading Program again this year.  The program will begin on Monday, April 15 and continue through Sunday, May 12.  The Rox Reading Calendar will take the place of our regular reading log for the next four weeks.  Students and parents will keep track and record their student's reading time on the weekly calendars.  Students are still required to get a minimum of 120 minutes each week.  If their calendar is turned in each week, they will qualify for the weekly drawing to win prizes of Rox merchandise and the grand prize.  One prize will be given out per week per classroom. At the end of 4 weeks, ALL students who reached their reading goal for all 4 weeks will earn the grand prize of a free ticket to a St. Cloud Rox home game!

SPECIAL DAYS

Hopefully your Walk For Life bottles have started to fill up.  This year we will be offering some special days leading up to our walk on May 3.

Friday April 12 - Bring $1 and earn an extra minute of free time for their grade level!
Friday April 19 - Bring $1 and wear a hat for the day!
Thursday April 25 - Bring $1 and buy a bag of popcorn!

Special items will also be for sale the week of April 22 - May 3.

ALL the money spent on these days goes to the same place - 100%.  The day we have these "special" events - students may "borrow" $1 from their bottle to buy a bag of popcorn, free time, hat, etc. as long as it is ok with parents and as long as they use it on these events.

The money goes to the same place no matter how it comes in!
